Working on the new window display, inspiration finally kicked in!Stay tuned on how it's going to turn out. Fingers crossed!
Events
I have been meaning to check out the new organic store at Seef for quite some time, and I finally did!
Honestly I was quite disappointed with the food we had an order of spanish omelette and fried eye egg on the other hand I quite liked the store itself it had a large variety of organic goods.

TRIBAL PRINCESS
Tribal Gathering by Karen
One might normally expect a more sombre palette of colours to grace the London catwalks at this time of the year, but last week LFW was awash with a sea of colours from the likes of Holly Fulton, Basso and Brook and Louise Gray…. to name a few.
Transcending the vibrant colours and beautiful prints, a strong ethnic and tribal theme was seen running through a few collections this season.
Design duo Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton from Australian label Sass and Bide www.sassandbide.com, were one of the brands to kick start LFW, and gave us a very elegant take on tribal.
With barely an acknowledgement of winter, Sass and Bide’s collection of vibrant magentas, fuchsia pink and fluro colours were enough to make us all wish we were somewhere far warmer than London’s Embankment!
Bold ikat and displaced checked prints ran through the collection, making what might ordinarily have been a bit too “Maasai warrior” for some, into a cool, urban and sassy take on tribal aesthetic.
Complimenting each look, chunky jewellery and cool fez style hats gave the collection an added twist and provided further cultural referencing, reiterated by the duo stating that “ The deliberately mixed aesthetic draws on a myriad of traditions and cultures that culminate in a bold and instinctive collection,”
I loved this collection, it was daring and refreshing and a big “WHATEVER” to the normal sombre palette that we see at this time of the year.
We also saw a slight tribal influence running through Peter Pillotto’s collection this season with both his choice of his prints and layered shapes.
Pillotto’s take on tribal was far more refined and a strong tailored element brought a much more grown up dimension to his clothes.
If going “tribal” is for you this season, the biggest dilemma you may face is whether you are a tribal warrior or perhaps a princess!
Back 2 the Future!
Back to the Future by Karen
Alongside a myriad of prints this season, there also seemed to a strong futuristic element to many of the AW collections.
First in question is bright young thing David Koma, a hot favourite with the likes of Cheryl Cole (pet) and Beyonce.
His signature style of strong (black) silhouettes coupled with edgy bling was left behind this season, replaced by a collection of body con, futuristic polka dot silhouettes.
Prints were certainly a new feature to Koma’s normal aesthetic and if you ask me many of the models looked like they could have stepped out of famous sci-fi thriller Bladerunner, and you could certainly imagine “Trinity” from The Matrix channelling many of the catwalk looks.
Historically some might say that to date his collections have cut a fine line between being cool and euro trash…depending on who was wearing it of course!
But with this new direction, we have seen another side to Koma’s talents.
The only question is will Miss Cole be liking this new direction as much as me.
Guess I’ll have to stay tuned in for American X factor to find out!
Another designer who also seemed to be channelling a very futuristic look was London’s darling Christopher Kane.
However, unlike the future, Kane’s inspiration was a lot closer to home.
The designer said… "THIS will be known as 'the liquid collection………It was inspired by the pencil cases I had at school and lollipops. But we didn’t want it to be over elaborate – we wanted it to be about really wearable, sophisticated clothes."
True to Kane’s signature style, simple silhouettes were order of the day, but the iridescent sequins featuring heavily on many of the pieces seemed reminiscent of reptilian scales seen in many a sci-fi film.
Both Kane and Koma undoubtedly seemed to be taking their collection into a much more directional galaxy this season. Both of which were totally out of this world!
