DISCO FEVER AND DELECABEL DIVA’S

DISCO FEVER AND DELECABEL DIVA’S  by Karen
What have flares, jumpsuits, sequins, tassels, marabou feathers, crochet, patchwork and bucket loads of glamour all got in common?

The 70’s of course!!!

Get ready ladies 70’s fever is here. Whether you prefer to embrace your inner disco diva or instead channel the flower power, hippy chic fashions of Woodstock, the 70’s trend definitely seems to have something for everyone.

All the big players this season such as Marc Jacobs, Just Cavalli, Halston and Etro were all channelling the 1970’s vibe as well as the younger more contemporary bands such as Elizabeth and James. Not to mention the high street of course!

There are many ways to do 70’s, for more of a shabby chic approach, its time to get out your crochet ponchos, flares and wide brim hats and platform shoes.

For those wanting to go down the Saturday Night Fever route, no fear, you might want to get your hands on some key shapes such as a full length maxi dresses.

Accessories are key to the 70’s look and this season chunky jewellery, big sunnies and floppy wide brim hat are also making a rather big comeback.

Oh, and pretty much anything asymmetric (preferably sequinned) will not fail to go a miss!

Further affirmation of this hot trend was Gucci’s SS11 collection. Undoubtedly influenced by the golden days of Studio 54.  Sumptuous silks in rich block colours, ¾ length drainpipe trousers, figure hugging satin shirts and tassel detailing were all key looks du jour! J’adore!!

The 70’s vibe has also influenced hair and beauty this season and I can confirm for many of us its time to blow the dust of our GHD straighteners.  NOOOOOOOOOO!

Long poker straight hair is also a big look for SS11, but no fear for those of us who have been working the big and bouncy look for a while now (like moi!), big curls a la “Charlie’s Angles” is also a strong look and the perfect way to compliment a plunging maxi dress or shimmering asymmetric number!

Whether its Abba or Blondie, Charlie’s Angles or Saturday Night Fever, Studio 54 or Woodstock…its time to work that 70’s retro vibe.

And if you are STILL lacking in inspiration, just think about Bianca Jagger riding into studio 54 on a white horse for inspiration!!

Now there’s a lady who really was committed to suffering for her art!
